This time, I’d like to write down a little about the background behind my track, “Probably.”
My Boss’s Favorite Word
“Probably” means “maybe” or “most likely.”It was also a word that one of my former bosses used all the time. I suppose it was simply a convenient expression for him. I heard it so often in everyday conversations that, without realizing it, the word stayed with me.
What Became of a Collaboration
The viola and cello parts used in this track were originally prepared as a proposal for a collaboration I had been asked to work on.That collaboration never really took shape, but I didn’t want the material to go to waste. In the end, I gave it a different chord progression and reworked it into one of my own original tracks.
I used to receive collaboration requests fairly often, and I tried to accommodate as many of them as I could. However, quite a few projects ended up unfinished, and sometimes the ownership and rights surrounding the music became unclear.
Because of those experiences, these days I tend to turn down most collaboration requests.
The Artwork
The artwork for this track uses a photograph of a flower that used to bloom near the company where I worked.No one was quite sure whether it was a cherry blossom or a plum blossom. Even among the people working there, opinions were divided, so it became something of a mysterious flower.
We had a few clues: it bloomed slightly earlier than the usual cherry blossom season, and apparently it produced fairly large fruit. Even so, I never found out exactly what kind of flower it was.
In a way, that slightly uncertain memory seems rather fitting for a track called “Probably.”
